Music Excellence

  • These scholarships are available to students entering Years 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11.
  • All applicants will sit for a competitive academic examination, although an audition will be the major criterion for selection. Applications will be shortlisted, and some boys will be invited to an audition, which will take place on Monday 24 February 2025.
  • The scholarship will cover a percentage of the academic tuition/boarding fee and/or the cost of the main instrumental tuition fee taught at the College.
  • The instrumental music dispensation allows for 30 lessons per year.
  • Successful applicants will have demonstrated excellence in music in their main instrument.
  • Students currently attending ·èÂí¸èÎèÐã College are also eligible to apply.
  • Documented evidence of achievements must accompany the application.
  • As a guideline, applicants for Year 7 should have completed a minimum standard of AMEB Grade 5 or equivalent; for Year 9, Grade 7 or equivalent; and for Year 11, Grade 8 or equivalent.
  • The successful applicants must be active, ongoing participants in the wider co-curricular music program during each of their years as students at ·èÂí¸èÎèÐã College.
  • The Head of Music will play an active role in guiding and instructing students’ involvement in the music program as well as their aims and ambitions for their principal instrument.
  • The successful applicants will need to demonstrate a willingness to participate fully in the life of the College.


AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

The audition requirements include the following:

  • The performance of two contrasting works on the principal instrument.
  • The performance of one piece demonstrating relevant skills on any secondary instrument(s).
  • Appropriate scales and arpeggios may be requested.
  • Aural tests will be conducted during the audition.
  • Sight-reading will be heard during the audition. Alternatively, some musical excerpts will be sent to the candidate to learn for the audition.
  • A number of interview questions will be asked.


OTHER AUDITION INFORMATION:

  • It is preferable that pieces are played with the appropriate piano part (if applicable). ·èÂí¸èÎèÐã College may be able to assist with accompanying on the day, but this is not guaranteed (please note that rehearsals will not be possible).
  • Candidates will be offered a warmup room approximately 15 minutes prior to the audition
